Africa’s 400m record holder, Isaac Makwala’s win in the semi finals of the World Championships on Monday lifted the gloom surrounding the team after Nijel Amos’ unexpected exit.

The unheralded Makwala powered to today’s 400m finals with a tidy run of 44:11 and would now look to win his first World Championship medal this afternoon.

The Tutume-born Makwala’s race is at 3:25pm local time.
