Makubate and Tawana win Badminton Open Tourney

Makubate beat Leungo Tshweneetsile in the women's single final to be crowned champion, while Tawana came victorious against Oreeditse Thela in the men's single finals. In the men's doubles, Godwin Mathumo and Thela overcame Tlholego Chamo and Tawana, while Marea Mohambi and Tshweneetsile's partnership defeated Kgalalelo Kegakile and Makubate in the women's doubles. Tawana partnered with Tshweneetsile in the mixed doubles where they beat Thela and Makubate to be crowned champions.
Botswana Badminton Association (BBA) President, Moagi Gaborone said the tournament went very well and there are a lot of positives coming from it. The national team selectors used the tournament to make selections for the singles team for both men and women though the teams will be announced and called to camp at a later stage. In addition, Gaborone said the tournament helps provide competition for national team players from both junior and senior levels. Development players and those playing for recreation were also catered for. Gaborone said regular tournaments are essential for the sport growth as they are currently on a mission to revive clubs.
