Mahalapye ready to host historic boxing tourney

The Botswana Boxing Association (BoBA) makes history this weekend when they host the Botswana National Boxing Championships in Mahalapye for the first time.

More than 64 boxers from all 14 BoBA affiliated clubs are expected to converge on the Mahalapye Prisons Staff College Hall for the tournament. The boxers qualified for the championships through a rigorous process that required them to participate and excel in at least 11 of 17 national inter-club tournaments. From the 64 only 16 would go through to the finals of the championships that would be held at the Botswana College of Agriculture (BCA) on November 19.

Speaking to Mmegi Sport, BoBA spokesperson, Willoughby Kemoen said they decided to host the first half of the championships in Mahalapye as a way of spreading boxing to other parts of the country.
