Lucas wins Northern Golf Open

FRANCISTOWN: Defending champion Diane Lucas of Orapa Golf Club has retained the First National Bank Botswana (FNBB) northern open after a tough competition over the weekend at Francistown Club.

This was Lucas' third victory in succession this year after he won the Orapa and Jwaneng tournaments. Though he got serious competition from Peter Podise and Dion Frost from Francistown, a confident Lucas escaped with two shots ahead of his rivals. The national team captain finished the 36-hole-event with 147 shots - two ahead of Podise and Frost.

On Saturday, Podise held Lucas to a tie after the first 18 holes with a 76 gross. However, Lucas surged ahead with five holes to go as Podise lost grip. Podise dropped shots in the 12th and 17th whole on Sunday and he never recovered much to the relief of Lucas.
