Former world chess championship finalist, Grand Master Nigel Short was left impressed with the display of local talent at a two day play session.

Short, who arrived in the country last week at the invitation of Talking Chess Trust played some of the country’s brightest chess minds. Short faced the juniors on Thursday while he played against the country’s best on Saturday including, national champion Candidate master Barileng Gaelafashwe.

Speaking to Monitor Sport after the last session held at Game City mall on Saturday, the Briton said he had difficulties on the day as some of the players gave him a run for his money. “It was hard work today, very hard work. I am completely exhausted; it was pleasing in the end. There are some good players, experienced players. I had difficulties in a lot of games. The guys who scored the points gave me difficulties. I don’t know the names, I am here playing 22 players. So I cannot tell,” he said.
