Karatekas Train For Zone VI Tourney

Hosts Botswana has started intensive training for the Zone VI Karate Championships to be staged at Boipuso Hall in Gaborone this weekend.

The event will have categories for children, juniors, cadets and seniors from all the Zone VI countries. Botswana has stepped in to host the tournament after the withdrawal of Angola. Botswana aims to win the tournament after finishing second to hosts South Africa last year.

Botswana senior team coach, Mpho Bakwadi said the Gaborone tournament is advantageous to most countries because of geographical reasons. He said that Botswana is centrally located in the Zone VI region and this allows many countries the opportunity to field more karatekas in the tournament because of less travelling expenses. "Most countries are unable to field many participants when tournaments are hosted by countries as far as Angola. Staging the tournament in Botswana gives them the opportunity to field more participants which will increase the fairness and competitiveness of the tournament," he said.
