Karate teams harvest 25 medals

The Botswana junior and senior national teams have returned with 25 medals from the annual Commonwealth Karate Championships, which were held in Pretoria, South Africa over the weekend.

Despite sending fewer karatekas, the country defied the odds and plundered six gold, nine silver and 10 bronze medals to finish second behind South Africa.

Botswana Karate Association (BOKA) junior coach, George Tshikare was elated by the teams' achievement. "Most of the athletes were first timers in the tournament but we were able to get three gold and six silver," he said.
