The number of Botswana’s athletes who have qualified for this year’s Rio Olympics rose to six after 400m runner, Lydia Jele, made the cut during the BAA National Championships held at the National Stadium on Sunday.

Jele who booked her Rio ticket after crossing the line in 51:50 to beat the qualifying time of 51:52. She becomes the first female track athlete to qualify for Olympics.

Jele’s coach Justice Dipeba told Mmegi Sport yesterday that he was impressed by her performance.
