JB Sports terminates Kofukan Sponsorship

The annual Kofukan Senior Schools and Clubs Championships have suffered a setback after the sponsor, JB Sports, pulled out citing financial constraints.

The tournament is one of the biggest in the Kofukan calendar and has been enjoying sponsorship from JB Sports for years.
Kofukan spokesperson, Bose Caiphus, said they have to dig deeper into their pockets to fund this year's tournament scheduled to take place in Francistown this Saturday. He stated that they will be forced to use part of their annual budget to stage the competition. "The tournament is open to any Kofukan karateka who is over 18," he said.

The guest of honour at the tournament will be Francistown mayor, Shadrack Nyeku, who has agreed to avail the Civic Centre for free to stage the competition.  Over 200 karatekas from about 20 clubs and 10 schools are expected to compete.
