Botswana Karate Federation (BKF) will get P12, 000 from JB Sports to sponsor the Kofukan Schools and Clubs Championships to be held on Saturday at the Selebi-Phikwe Town Hall.

The money will be used to purchase trophies and medals. The tournament is part of preparations for the Commonwealth Karate Championships to be held in South Africa next month. More than 20 clubs and junior and senior schools in the country are expected to take part in the weekend's tournament in Selebi-Phikwe.

"Ever since junior and senior schools joined four years ago, the competition has become intense," said George Tshikare, BKF public relations officer. Tshikare said the stakes will be high this year because of the increased number of participants.
