Swinging into action: The fire which destroyed part of the club house will not impact on the greens

Even though fire nearly razed the iconic 47 year-old Gaborone Golf Club (GGC) house on Sunday, golf activities will not be affected.

The 18-hole golf course will still host Nomad Competition shortly after the Easter holiday. GGC club manager, Andre Du Plessis said the blaze that affected the clubhouse has not disrupted their programme.

“The GGC is still operational and members will still relax and enjoy the game. The fire has only affected the clubhouse, but the golf course was not affected,” said Du Plessis. He further said the management is making an arrangement to have an alternative place. “We have held a planning meeting and business began yesterday. We are planning to construct a temporary clubhouse structure since the bar and the restaurant have been destroyed. We are awaiting investigations to be completed before we can consider a permanent structure or refurbunishing the burnt clubhouse,” he said.
