GU defends CAF game ticket prices

Gaborone United (GU) secretary, Kagiso Sebele has said the club's decision to sell tickets for their CAF Champions League tie against Orlando Pirates at relatively high prices of P75 and P100 is due to the low seating capacity of the University of Botswana (UB) Stadium.

Sebele told Mmegi Sport yesterday that they took the safety of spectators into consideration when they came up with the ticket prices.

"We believe the prices will assist in having a controlled number of people at the game," he said. He stated that they have decided to put up a grand stand for VIPs at the UB Stadium which will be charged at P100 per head. "The grand stand will not be something big since we do not want to cut out a large number of people," he explained. GU wanted the match, seen as a potential money spinner, to be played at the National Stadium with a capacity of 20,000 compared to the UB Stadium's 10,000. The National Stadium is undergoing renovations. Both GU and Pirates command large followings in Botswana and expectations are that the demand for tickets will be high.
