FRANCISTOWN: Football in the northern part of the country is taking a further step backwards with all three teams facing relegation coming from the region.

Their relegation would mean four teams would be demoted from the First Division North league to make way for the three teams from the Premiership and two that would gain promotion from the second division. First Division North secretary general, Rapula Gaotlhobogwe said the impending situation will impact heavily on their efforts and they hope to have two teams promoted to ease the situation.

“This is going to be a serious blow for our teams here. If three teams relegate, our progression is going to suffer because we will lose many teams to the second division. We  pray that we promote two teams otherwise the situation is not good for our football in the north. It is two steps back for us,” Gaotlhobogwe said.
