After six seasons with no sponsorship, the First Division South League has received financial backing in the region of P2 million.

The chairman of the league committee, Tariq Babitseng confirmed to Mmegi Sport that they have secured sponsorship though he gave little details. He said the deal has already commenced with clubs receiving training gear.

"The training gear and balls that we gave to teams recently were part of the sponsorship but we had not finalised everything at that stage," Babitseng said. He explained that although the season is already underway, the sponsorship will cover the current campaign. The young Babitseng, who succeeded Charles Chilisa three months ago, warned that the league committee will not let individuals benefit from the sponsorship at the expense of clubs.  He said they have a plan on how best to utilise the sponsorship money. He explained that while money should motivate clubs, the league committee will not engage in unnecessary expenditure. "It is good that players would be motivated and teams that get promoted will target a better finish due to the financial rewards. However, we would not be flashing money around. There are issues like developing football more than just the prize money.
