Newly appointed Sevens rugby coach, Andrew Paxinos is impressed with the way his charges performed at the World Cup qualifiers held in Zambia over the weekend. Botswana finished third to qualify for the next round which would see the team play opposition from north African countries.

The Vultures overcame strong contenders, Namibia and Zambia who are ranked above the local side. Paxinos, however, said that the first day of the tournament was tough and blamed limited training time for this as the team was only together for three weeks before the tournament.

"The team has also not competed in any major tournaments all year," he said. Paxinos said because of this, the players took a while to gel. Botswana's first game was against regional powerhouse Zimbabwe and they lost 31-0.The local side lost 25-0 to Madagascar in the second game but Paxinos feels his team was cheated.
