BTV won't screen zebras' AFCON matches - Masisi

Presidential Affairs and Public Administration minister, Mokgweetsi Masisi says the money raised from the alcohol levy is not enough to pay for next month's Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) broadcasting rights, currently held by French company, SportFive.

Masisi was responding to questions posed by Members of Parliament (MPs) last week after briefing them that Botswana Television (Btv) would not broadcast the games because SportFive is demanding P15 million for limited coverage of the Zebras.

Kgatleng East MP, Isaac Mabiletsa had however, suggested that money from the alcohol levy be used to augment the sum government was willing to spend. He said doing so would help combat alcohol abuse, as the games would keep fans away from bars.
