BTA introduces junior championship

Botswana Tennis Association (BTA) will stage one of the first junior open tournaments to give youngsters exposure and develop players for the future. The tournament is meant for Under-23 players.

About 100 juniors are expected to do battle for seven days at the national tennis centre in Gaborone. BTA sports development officer, Tuelo Serufo told Mmegi Sport yesterday that the tournament will be held during school holidays only. The event is part of the ongoing training camp at the same venue where 60 juniors were introduced to technical aspects of the game.

Serufo explained that the tournament is not only for those currently in camp, but every junior interested in participating. He invited parents to bring their children for the competition. He said results do not matter in the competition because it is mainly for junior development and to keep players active. Registration fee is P20.
