The BPL committee’s decision followed the National Appeals Board’s (NAB) verdict on the case in which Sankoyo appealed after being docked three points by the BFA disciplinary committee. They were found guilty of using a defaulter (Morris Ruzivo) who FC Satmos had challenged his registration. Sankoyo appealed the decision, but were dealt a blow on Thursday when the NAB upheld the BFA DC’s decision.
The Premier League chairman on Friday revealed in an interview with the national broadcaster, Botswana Television (Btv) that they have decided to dock Sankoyo all the points from the games in which they used the Zimbabwean striker. The decision left many people shocked, but the board reportedly met yesterday and overuled that decision. The board agreed that both Satmos and Notwane should play against each other to determine who remains in the elite league and who goes to the lower division. One of the Premier League giants, Extension Gunners had publicly condemned the management committee’s decision. The Peleng side released a statement on their website saying they were not part of the initial decision. “We are not in any way part of the decision taken to implement nor administer this draconian punishment. And further the board of Governors of the Botswana Premier League which is charged with general running of the BPL was not involved in the meeting of this decision,” club chairperson, Kitso Dlamini said. He added that the decision should be revisited and the principles of fair play should prevail.
