The Botswana Amateur Boxing Association (BABA) has changed its name to Botswana Boxing Association (BoBA). The association's publicity secretary Willough Kemoen told Mmegi Sport yesterday that they have re-branded themselves to keep up with international standards.

"We wanted to match adhere to international standards of boxing as recommended by the mother body, International Boxing Association (IBA)," he stated.
He said they have graduated from amateurs to professionals and they applied for the new name a long time ago but the Registrar of Companies delayed to the process of name change. They struck off amateur to conform to IBA standards.

Kemoen explained that boxing has grown tremendously over the years and the results of their efforts are evident in the performance. Boxing is currently one most successful sports in Botswana with local boxers doing well in international competitions. A jubilant Kemoen said that though there is still room for improvement, BoBA has achieved a lot. He indicated that even the standard of officiating, judging and running of clubs has improved. "Now we use electronic score board used worldwide not the manual one we have been using before," he told Mmegi Sport.
