Botswana women lose all 3 in rugby playoffs

Botswana women rugby coach, Shaun Lees has blamed his team's poor showing at the weekend's Confederation of African Rugby (CAR) Women's South/East African Sevens Tournament on inexperience, as Botswana failed to secure themselves a top four spot, after they lost all their three games on the first day of the tournament on Saturday.

Despite playing at home they were defeated 14-0, 17-5, and 31-0 to Madagascar, Uganda, and Kenya. Botswana now misses in the 2012 Africa Sevens Championship that are also the  qualifiers for the 2013 World Cup.

However expectations of qualifying were high for Botswana who had trained hard all year in preparation for this tournament. From the on-set Botswana was rickety as team members struggled to gel. The first two games which Botswana should have easily won were lost in the same manner. Lees said his charges did not follow the game plan when they played Madagascar. The Uganda game was a bit better as the players seemed to be a bit more settled. However the Botswana women were let down by poor finishing. They only scored once, thanks to a try by  Mpho Molatlhwe.
