Bondo puts aside AFCON disappointment

Respected local referee, Joshua Bondo has said he is firmly focused on the Africa Youth Championships as he prepares to handle his first match between Senegal and Ivory Coast tomorrow night.

Bondo was left disappointed after he was omitted from the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations finals referees list, but said he has put that behind. “(FIFA instructor) Felix (Tangawarima), who is here in Senegal, has told me to put the AFCON issue behind and focus ahead,” said Bondo from Senegal.  He was the fourth official during the opening between the hosts, Senegal and Nigeria.  Bondo was largely tipped to become the first referee to make the AFCON finals list, but it was his unheralded compatriot, Oamogetse Godisamang who made the cut as assistant referee.

The last minute tournament switch from Morocco to Equatorial Guinea meant CAF trimmed its list from an initial 45 to 30, which meant Bondo missed out. He has however, found consolation after his latest appointment to handle the Under-20 Youth Championships.
