The Botswana Boxing Association (BoBA) will honour its top performers from last year in the inaugural Boxing Achievers Awards scheduled for Yarona Country Lodge in Mogoditshane this evening.

BoBA will also launch its newsletter at the same function. The night will see top performers rewarded as Boxer of the Year, Junior boxer of the Year, Referee of the Year, Affiliate/club of the Year, Judge of the Year, Coach of the Year and the Executive committee Special Award.

BoBA development officer Healer Modiradilo told Mmegi Sport that they decided to have the awards as separate events on their calendar in order to recognise best performers. He said the awards are meant to motivate boxers. He said in the past, they used to have the awards at the end of the Best of the Best tournament, but they felt they were not given prominence, hence the decision to hold them as a separate event. Modiradilo expressed hope that the awards will keep growing and in years to come as they will try sourcing sponsorship. This year, the awards do not have a sponsor.
