BNOC receives P8.7m for 2016 Olympics

The Botswana National Olympic Committee (BNOC) has received P8.7 million grant to prepare for the 2016 Olympic Games to be held in Brazil, the organisation’s chief executive officer, Tuelo Serufho has revealed.

Speaking at the BNOC annual general meeting on Monday, Serufho commended government for releasing the funds a year ahead of the competition. This, he said, would help BNOC prepare well for the games. The BNOC received the grant in August.

Serufho said: “This is the first time in history that we have received the grant when there is still significant amount of time before the games. Although the grant is slightly lower than the P10 million we had wished for, we want to congratulate the MYSC for releasing the grant early. We generally received the grant with only a few months, and that made it impossible for BNOC to complete its plans.
