Lakers (yellow) in action against BDF V (red and White)

BDF V coach, Israel Mphato sees improvement in his side, after watching the local girls fall 61-49 to Bulawayo side, Lakers at the ongoing Zone VI Basketball Championship on Tuesday.

The two teams were evenly matched at the start, but Lakers were soon out of sight in the first quarter with points coming from Jacqueline Penduka and Tsitsi Chibonda, as the two combined superbly.

BDF V tried to regroup with Victoria Leagajang at the centre of some moves, and found a willing ally in Babirye Kintu. Despite BDF V’s efforts, Lakers clung on to their lead. The high tempo encounter had a number of fouls, and Chibonda capitalised to stretch her team’s lead to 31-24 at half time. In the second quarter, BDF V opted for a shooting game with Resego Moepeng staying behind her opponents’ post to shoot for the hoops once she received the ball.
