BCA receive combi donation from local magnate

The Botswana Cricket Association (BCA) received a shot in the arm last Thursday when they received a self-branded 16-seater combi worth P85,000 courtesy of Sportlight Motors.

Company chairman Omar Farook officially handed over the vehicle keys to the association at the BCA Oval in Gaborone the last week.

Speaking to Monitor Sport on the sidelines of the handover, Sportlight Motors chairman Farook said they decided to donate the combi in appreciation of the good work they have been doing. He said BCA chiefs have been working around the clock with its development programme in an effort to grow Botswana's future cricket stars. He said the combi was specifically meant for the BCA's development programme. Farook, who hails from Sri-Lanka, a world cricket powerhouse, said he would one day like to see a Botswana team made up of 100 percent citizens compete at the same level as his country. "One way of ensuring this is achieved is by facilitating the smooth running of the programme," he said. Farook said they decided to donate a combi because they had noticed that the BCA was struggling with transport. He said he expects the combi to act as a form of motivation for more children to come forward and play cricket.
