Outstanding national team karateka, Ofentse 'Shakes' Bakwadi, expects a hectic 2011 with a number of international competitions' line-up.

The 26-year-old karateka completed a demanding 2010 where he was the most active national team player competing in international tournaments including the World Karate Championships, World Universities Karate Championships and the US Open. Locally, Shakes never lost in any kumite competition. He told Mmegi Sport that this year he is aiming high especially with the hectic karate calendar that includes tournaments such as the All Africa Games and the 2011 Commonwealth Karate Championships. "I only took a one-week break from training during the festive season and I made sure that I stay in shape throughout," he said. Bakwadi believes in karate saying that "karate is like hot water, if you do not heat it, it cools down," which informed his decision to train on a daily basis. The Hayashi-ha karateka is also a full-time student at the University of Botswana (UB) and also doing a part-time accounting course at the Botswana Accountancy College (BAC).
