The Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture, Gladys Kokorwe, is expected to appoint a new chairperson, for the Botswana National Sports Council (BNSC) tomorrow.

The current BNSC chairperson Dorcas Makgato-Malesu, has indicated that she will not be available for the position after taking up a new post as head of BEDIA. She has headed BNSC for the last five years. She has been hailed as a very focused person who never looked intimidated by the male dominance in sports. She is a free spirited character who always related well with BNSC affiliates. Many will remember her for her mediation efforts in the football wars of 2003. She takes prides in playing a part in the establishment of a ministry of sports.

Botswana Football Association (BFA) chief executive officer, Tosh Kgotlele, describes Makgato-Malesu as a visionary leader who served sport brilliantly. He expressed hope that the sports fraternity can still benefit from her skills and experience even though she will not be head of BNSC. Kgotlele's advice to the incoming BNSC chairperson is to make the construction of indoor facilities a priority. He said sport in Botswana has grown and it is time indoor facilities are given serious consideration.
