HATAB represents various sectors of the tourism industry namely; airlines, air charters, camps and lodges, conservation and wildlife management, hotels, tour operators, mobile operators, and related services. Through collaborative advocacy with tourism operators, HATAB engages with government authorities to address regulatory barriers and facilitate necessary public policy reforms . Membership Services: HATAB provides members with a range of benefits, including: Representation: Acting as a collective voice for the industry. Information: Sharing updates on government policies, industry news, and statistics. Marketing: Promoting members through various channels, including online platforms and industry events. Networking: Facilitating connections among members and with other stakeholders. Credibility: Enhancing members' reputation through association with HATAB. Training: Offering training programmes on relevant topics. HATAB Policy Advocacy Achievements • Local Per Diem Policy Reform: Successfully intervened against the government’s local per diem system to ensure that government supports local hospitality establishments and stem job losses • Tourist Visa Approvals: Partnered with the Ministry of Labour and Home Affairs (MLHA) to resolve visa delays, protecting sector revenue and the country’s reputation. • Resuscitation of Tourism Pitso: Worked with the Ministry of Environment and Tourism to convene the Tourism Pitso in Francistown (January 29–30, 2026) for the first time in 13 years. • Tourism Statistics & Data: Addressed data gaps by supporting the Ministry’s launch of the Botswana Tourism Satellite Account 2019–2024, providing essential market intelligence for investment and planning. • Capacity Building & Member Training: Partnered with Botswana School of Business Science (BSBS) and Emergency Assist 911 via an MOU to offer discounted staff training for HATAB members. • Streamlined Transport Permits: Engaged the Department of Road Transport Service (DRTS) to relax permit renewals rules so that a resolution signed by only one director rather than the full board is sufficient . • Land Rehabilitation Funding (CO2 Programme) for Koro River Camp: Helped the member secure funding from financial partners to purchase and plant indigenous trees, supporting land rehabilitation and habitat restoration initiatives. HATAB training programs in collaboration with its partners strengthens the members’ ability to conduct their business. In summary, HATAB’s mission is to create a favourable environment for its members while also promoting the sustainable growth of Botswana's tourism and hospitality sector.
