FDI surpasses target as tourism leads

Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) attracted through the Botswana Investment and Trade Centre (BITC) reached P5.52 billion during the 2025 financial year, exceeding the organisation’s P5 billion target.

During the financial year, tourism emerged as the leading sector for FDI, followed by energy, services, mining, manufacturing and agribusiness, highlighting continued foreign investor interest across key areas of the economy. South Africa, Ethiopia, Germany, Zimbabwe, Poland, India, Switzerland, and China were identified as key source markets for FDI during the reporting period.

According to BITC Chief Executive Officer Keketsositse Olebile, the FDI performance formed part of BITC’s overall investment facilitation results, which amounted to P14.882 billion against a target of P13.6 billion. Direct investment and expansions accounted for P9.062 billion, surpassing the P8.6 billion target.
