Zone six goes green

The Ministry of Agriculture has declared North East District (NED) a green zone after a successful Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) eradication following an audit of the containment activities in the area.

 The ministry said in a statement that the recent reinstatement of FMD-free without vaccination status is by the World Animal Health Organisation.

According to the statement, the ministry is still to negotiate with its trading partners to return to normal business. Government embarked on a wholesale cattle depopulation exercise in the area in the first quarter of 2011 following an outbreak of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD).
