The world will on March 26 observe Purple Day, a global initiative to raise awareness about epilepsy. In line with this, Young Epilepsy Botswana (YEB) will join countries around the world in hosting the Purple Walk at the weekend.
Set to take place on March 22 ahead of Purple Day in Gaborone, the event aims to raise awareness about epilepsy and the importance of effective treatment in managing seizures. This year’s Purple Walk will be held under the theme, 'Walking for a Purpose, Stand Up for Epilepsy'.
YEB chairperson, Naledi Khan highlights that, “Over the years, there has been a lot of misunderstanding about epilepsy. It is crucial to educate the public on the condition, and to encourage acceptance and adherence to treatment for individuals living with epilepsy and their families".
Khan further emphasises the organisation’s ongoing collaboration with the government and the support of fellow Batswana, individuals, and businesses in advancing their mission. Since YEB’s inception in 2014, the Purple Walk has been an annual event, and humbly invite all epilepsy warriors to join the commemoration this year.
Registration for the Purple Walk will begin at 4am and close at 5:45am at The Grand Palm Hotel Casino Convention Resort, with the walk starting at 6am. The five-kilometre walk will conclude with a health break at Rail Park Mall, followed by a brief commemoration at The Grand Palm Marquee. Participants will receive free merchandise upon registration.
