In a spirited demonstration of solidarity and dissent, workers and trade unions in Gaborone serenaded Tumisang Mangwegape-Healy Member of Parliament (MP) with a struggle song, ‘re dueleng re le bereketse ha se maloba le re ha di chenchi’ (We have worked for you, pay us, it’s not like old times when we were given peanuts) on May Day.

They burst into singing the struggle song to Mangwegape-Healy after he was given an opportunity to address the workers and he seemingly irked them when he remarked that currently workers are earning fair wages. “We have really come a long way as a country, and we are starting to see some progress because if you can see how things used to be in the past, we can appreciate what we have right now.

“I mean, if you compare our salaries with those of our parents you will see that they are better,” he claimed.
