William appeals P1.9 million fine

Former government employee, David William, has filed a review application before the High Court following his failed bid to avoid paying the state the P1.9 million he owes.

William who was slapped with 38 counts of stealing by a person employed in the public service wants the court to review the judgment by Broadhurst Principal Magistrate Monashe Ndlovu, issued on November 9, 2015.

Magistrate Ndlovu had ordered that William pay the state back the money after he was found guilty following a criminal suit brought against him by the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP). In his notice of motion dated February 11, 2016 William through his lawyer, Othusitse Mbeha wants the respondents to show cause why the decision of the magistrate should not be reviewed and set aside as a nullity.
