FRANCISTOWN: In recent times, the Vice President (VP) Mokgweetsi Masisi has been firing warning shots to his Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) opponents who harbour ambitions of becoming president in 2019.

In a recent interview with a local newspaper, Masisi presented himself as the best person for the BDP presidency. His move was viewed from some quarters as purely a confidence builder.

He is almost certain to succeed Ian Khama as the next president when the president’s mandatory term comes to an end in March 31, 2018, but the BDP will decide who takes the party to the 2019 general elections through a special congress.
