Who should take credit for the development of Botswana?

FRANCISTOWN: From time immemorial, some people within the ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) have solely credited the BDP with all the successes that the country has experienced since it attained independence from Britain. It is a fact that when Botswana attained independence from Britain in 1966, it was one of the poorest countries in the world.

The country had literally no economy and relied very much on agriculture.

By then, the Europeans thought that Botswana was just a desert, which offered nothing economic to their interests, especially minerals that they were exploring in Africa at breakneck speed following the scramble for Africa.
