WHO calls for voluntary blood donors

FRANCISTOWN: The World Health Organisation (WHO) has encouraged countries to aim for 100% blood supplies from voluntary unpaid donors.

WHO representative Dr Martins Ovberdjo said this during the world blood donor commemorations on Tuesday.

Ovberdjo said voluntary unpaid donors are the safest group of donors as the prevalence of blood borne diseases is lowest among them. He said: “We therefore, encourage all countries to aim for 100% blood supplies from voluntary unpaid donors by the year 2020”.
