What electorate look for in candidates?

FRANCISTOWN: In a little more than six months Batswana will be going to the polls for the 2014 general elections. They will be electing councillors and Members of Parliament (MP), who on the day will be waiting with bated breath to know whether they have triumphed.

Even thought so much has been heard from aspiring candidates, not enough has been said on what the electorate want.  What exactly are the qualities the electorate are looking for in their candidate of choice?  At this moment, it is approaching high noon as candidates run helter-skelter trying to convince their electorate why and how they are the right people to represent them at the respective houses.

In a mini-survey, Simon Mbulawa, 50, told Mmegi that when electing representatives to the August houses, he looks for someone who can create jobs, who is brave and is conversant on issues concerning their area.
