Wayeyi remain hopeful

The Wayeyi Chieftainship Council remains hopeful that in March government will recognise their chieftainship.

This follows the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Slumber Tsogwane’s consultations recently in Gumare. Tsogwane had told the Wayeyi that consultations regarding their recognition as a tribe have been completed.

In an interview, the chairperson of Wayeyi Chieftainship Council, Ditando Gceba, said they are hopeful that at long last their chieftainship will be recognised.“We are still waiting for a response from the minister. We are awaiting a positive response from government,” said Gceba.
