Wayei Paramount Chief Dies

Maun: Wayei are mourning the death of their paramount chief, Fish Ozoo who died in Nokaneng on Friday. Chairperson of Wayei tribal council, Dithando Gceba confirmed the death. He was however not in a position to reveal the cause of death.

Ozoo has understandably been sickly of late. Gceba said: “The death has just happened. I can only have more details after travelling to Nokaneng where the funeral arrangements will be conducted”. Ozoo, who was the chief for Nokaneng, was due to be formally recognised as the Wayei paramount chief.

This followed the recognition of Wayei as a tribe by the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Slumber Tsogwane in May last year. Gceba revealed that the tribe will decide whether the deceased will be buried Gumare, Wayei official headquarters. Funeral arrangements are ongoing.
