Warder rescued by public after stabbing by inmate

A prison warder in Francistown was rescued by members of the public after he was attacked by an inmate and an accomplice who is an ex-convict, at Nyangabwe Hospital on Monday. Vigilant members of the public foiled an attempt by the prisoner to escape.

A Department of Prisons and Rehabilitation spokesman, Senior Superintendent Wamorena Ramolefhe said the incident occurred after the warder had escorted a robbery suspect who is on remand to hospital. He said the prisoner identified as Paul Chikalila, a Zambian national was in leg irons when they arrived at the hospital.

Ramolefhe said at the hospital, Chikalila and the prison warder met Maxwell Nduko, an ex convict.  Nduko was released from jail in August this year after serving three years for burglary, school breaking and theft.
