US's tough stance on anti-poaching

Animal trafficking has ballooned into a multi-billion dollar business that is decimating African wildlife United States Ambassador to Botswana Michelle Gavin said this at the Wildlife Enforcement Network for Southern Africa (WENSA) workshop yesterday.

She said the ever-increasing sophisticated networks of well-armed poachers and criminals exploited the porous borderlines and weak institutions to profit from trade of illegally taken wildlife.

Research has shown that most species, most notably elephants, rhinos and big cats, now face a major decline.
