Unmarried officers should not counsel wedded couples - residents

MALESHE: Residents of Maleshe Village in the Kgalagadi South constituency has called on government to review traditional laws especially those focusing on marriage.

It is their wish that public officers who preside over marriages should also be married as they will be better placed to provide relevant advice and guidance on successful marital solutions. The residents brought this to light when their Member of Parliament John Toto addressed them recently.

“I totally agree with you that it is unacceptable to have unmarried marriage officers preside over counseling sessions as they don’t have experience and would not be better positioned to advice couples accordingly,” said Toto to the delight of the elderly men and women who attended the Kgotla meeting.
