Unions look into Teachers' Day mix-up

Teachers unions have encouraged their members to attend this year's Teachers' Day celebration if the deputy permanent secretary at the Education Ministry and the high consultative forum are to rubber-stamp the decision to have the event on Friday.

The publicity secretary of Botswana Teachers Union (BTU), Timidatso Maeletso told Mmegi that this year's calendar shows that the celebration would be held on Friday as per their request.

Annually, the event is usually celebrated on Thursday. However, teachers have complained that the day was not suitable for most of them. This is because they would be too tired to go to work on Friday after travelling to and from the venue of the celebrations.
