UNICEF encourages child participation in global issues

United Nations Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) representative, Julianna Lindsey says in many countries culture is often flagged to discourage initiatives towards strengthening child participation.

Lindsey was speaking during the global perspective on child participation consultation forum in Mogoditshane recently.

She said, Botswana however, seems to differ as it is a shining example where the custodians of culture are the ones driving child participation. She further said child participation means adults should listen and consider what children have to say and not let children say whatever they wish and have adults follow children’s desires.
