FRANCISTOWN: Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) in partnership with an ally, Botswana Congress Party (BCP) has emphatically retained Phillip Matante East ward in a by-election last Saturday.

The Francistown South constituency ward fell vacant end of January following the death of Shadreck Nyeku.

Last Saturday at a counting done at Montsamaisa Junior Secondary School, the UDC and its BCP partners represented by Uyapo Nyeku garnered 530 votes against the ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) represented by Peter Nare’s 391 votes. Four of the votes were declared spoiled.
