UDC orders BMD to hold special congress

The Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) has instructed the Botswana Movement for Democracy (BMD) to conduct a special congress within three months, failing which, the party will be suspended from the coalition, Mmegi has established.

The decision was made despite the fact that former BMD members who have been demanding a congress rerun, recently left to form the Alliance for Progressives (AP).

In addition, BMD president, Sidney Pilane has claimed that the UDC does not have power on the affairs of BMD.
