The University of Botswana (UB) has taken a decision to suspend its staff member Prof Brothers Malema following his rape allegation. Mmegi Online can further confirm that Malema has since been released from police custody.

On Wednesday Mmegi Online reported that the senior lecturer who is also politician had been arrested by the Central Police station in Gaborone following a report by an 18-year-old UB student that he had sexually abused her at his office. Now the UB has confirmed that they have taken a decision to suspend him with immediate effect. A statement from the university reads, “ The University of Botswana (UB) confirms suspension of one of its staff members who was this week alleged to have been involved in acts of sexual misconduct. The staff member has been suspended with immediate effect pending investigation on the matter.” The UB further states that they are committed to zero tolerance to any form of sexual misconduct. This morning, the BCP also issued a statement that Malema has suspended his membership from the lime party.
