The 2017/2018 budget speech delivered by the Minister of Finance and Economic Development Kenneth Matambo on Monday has received thumbs up from economic drivers.

Captains of industry whom Mmegi spoke to after Matambo bared open his briefcase, welcomed the budget measures that improve diversified sources of economic growth and revenue. Matambo indicated that among the strategies to be pursued during the 2017/18 financial year to promote diversified and export led growth, is the provision of basic infrastructure such as information communication technology (ICT), electricity, and water supply, which are critical enablers for setting up business.

“Other critical inputs such as land servicing as well as residence and work permits have of late received attention as basic requirements for business operation,” Matambo stated. In response, the chief executive officer of the Citizen Empowerment Development Agency (CEDA), Thabo Thamane noted that the emphasis on infrastructure development, something welcomed as it could create opportunities for the Small Medium Enterprises (SME).
