FRANCISTOWN: Three butchers in the Letlhakane policing area will appear before court on Tuesday after their products were discovered to be possibly stolen.

The trio was recently arrested during a police raid for alleged pilfered goods, the police said. Letlhakane Police Station commander, Michael Maphephu indicated that the operation focused on neighbourhood butchers when it was discovered the offenders had a pattern of stealing cattle and selling it to nearby butcheries.

He said the butchery proprietors were suspected of purchasing their meat through theft as they were unable to produce documentation of their purchase. Maphephu exhorts the pastoral farmers in the area to care for their animals at all times to make them harder for the perpetrators to target.
