Three arrested for illegally selling Zamaroko

GHANZI: Police in Ghanzi have arrested two Batswana and one Zimbabwean for illegally selling loose tobacco (mablara) branded Zamaroko.

Ghanzi District Station Commander Modiro Lekone said the sale of that kind of loose tobacco is not allowed in the country as it poses a serious threat to the health of human beings.

“ The sale of this kind of loose tobacco is not allowed in the country, yet people still continue to sell it. Our investigations have revealed that it is usually consumed by the herdsmen,” he said.

In addition the Station Commander said they have arrested two men for selling weed in Ghanzi.


Meanwhile Lekone said they have mounted a roadblock by Charleshill turn-off and have they have not registered any fatalities since Wednesday.

“ We have only registered eight cases of people who were driving without licences, four drivers for driving while drinking, three for overspeeding , one for reckless driving and one was driving a car that was unregistered,” he said.
